Vitamin + Mineral Series: Vitamin b12

It is estimated that over 40% of people are deficient in b12. This does not mean everybody should run out and buy a b12 supplement, but it does mean you should get your levels tested (it’s an easy test to ask your doctor for). Save this post so that once you have your bloodwork results back, you can see if they are within the optimal range (which is different than “normal” lab ranges).

Vitamin b12 is only found in animal foods. For those of you that don’t know: I used to be vegan and vegetarian for many many years, but no longer am and do not recommend it for optimal health. It leads to too many subtle underlying nutrient deficiencies, one of which is vitamin b12.
